GoTHOMIS Tanzania: Services, Login and Key Features

GoTHOMIS is Tanzania’s Government Health Operations Management Information System, a digital platform designed to help public healthcare facilities manage clinical and administrative services from one place. Run under the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, the system covers everything from patient registration and outpatient care to pharmacy stocks, insurance claims and referrals. For health workers, this means fewer disconnected processes. For patients, it can mean smoother care.

What GoTHOMIS Does Inside Tanzanian Health Facilities

GoTHOMIS brings several parts of day-to-day hospital and health-centre operations into a single digital environment. Rather than treating registration, consultation, medicine dispensing and billing as separate workflows, the platform connects them through specialised service modules.

Patient Registration supports client registration, card verification, advanced patient searches and appointment management. Once a patient enters the system, healthcare staff can use Outpatient Consultation tools to record medical history, clinical notes, diagnoses, investigations and treatment.

The Vital Signs module records measurements such as blood pressure and Body Mass Index, while Nursing Care supports admission requests, inpatient monitoring, clinical charting, discharge processes and management of admitted patients.

For patients requiring hospitalisation, the Inpatient Consultation service handles patient history, diagnoses, investigations, treatment, clinical notes and discharge documentation. Operating Theatre functions extend the workflow into surgical care, including consent forms, assessment of pre-operative conditions and anaesthetic visits.

This integration matters in Tanzania because a patient’s journey through a public facility can involve several departments. A single visit may start at registration, move through consultation and laboratory investigation, continue to pharmacy or admission, and eventually require billing or insurance processing.

Digitising those steps creates an opportunity to reduce repeated data entry and improve continuity between departments.

Pharmacy, Insurance and Referral Services Are Built In

Medicine availability remains one of the most closely watched issues in public healthcare. GoTHOMIS addresses part of that operational challenge through its Pharmacy Management module, which supports requisitions, receiving medicines, issuing stock, stocktaking and dispensing.

The Prime Vendor service adds another layer. It supports out-of-stock notifications, ordering, allocated funds, pull balances and receiving processes. Used consistently, these tools can give health facility managers a clearer picture of medicine movements and shortages before problems become harder to manage.

Insurance processing is also integrated. GoTHOMIS supports insurance verification for NHIF and CHF, electronic claims submission and service approval. Bill Management handles pending bills, cancelled bills, cashier transactions and receipt reprinting.

That combination has practical consequences. Clinical digitisation alone cannot fix delayed claims, medicine shortages or billing errors. Linking financial and supply functions with patient services gives administrators a better chance of tracing where problems occur.

External Referral functionality supports emergency referrals, normal referrals and the receiving of referred patients. This can be especially useful within Tanzania’s tiered healthcare structure, where patients may move from lower-level facilities to hospitals capable of providing more specialised treatment.

For healthcare workers, the lesson is simple: GoTHOMIS is not only a patient-record system. It functions as a wider operational platform connecting clinical care, supplies, payment processes and movement of patients between facilities.

Specialised Care Modules Extend Beyond General Treatment

GoTHOMIS also includes services targeting conditions and departments that require more specialised documentation.

The TB and Leprosy module provides information and case-management functions for tuberculosis and leprosy services. Diabetes and Hypertension tools support enrolment, consultation and client appointments, reflecting the growing need for structured long-term management of non-communicable diseases.

Immunization functions cover vaccine logistics, vaccine administration and reporting. This is particularly useful because vaccination programmes depend on both clinical records and reliable stock control.

For newborn care, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit module manages NICU admissions, patient charts and related health information exchange. Rehabilitation cases have their own module as well.

Taken together, these features show how health information systems are moving beyond basic electronic registration. The stronger model is an integrated platform that follows patients across different stages of care while also giving administrators operational data.

That shift matters across East Africa. Health facilities throughout the region face similar pressures: growing patient numbers, medicine-management demands, insurance administration and the need to maintain usable clinical records. Tanzania’s approach through GoTHOMIS offers one example of how government-run facilities can consolidate those activities digitally.

Technology will not improve service delivery automatically. Its value depends heavily on accurate data entry, reliable infrastructure, staff training and consistent use across departments. A sophisticated system becomes far less useful when one section of a facility records information digitally while another continues operating outside the shared workflow.

How to Sign In to GoTHOMIS

Authorised users can access Centralized GoTHOMIS through the official Government of Tanzania portal.

Visit the official portal at: https://gothomis.tamisemi.go.tz/#/home

Users must enter a valid username and password to sign in. Access credentials are intended for authorised healthcare personnel and other approved system users.

Anyone experiencing sign-in problems should contact their designated ICT Support Team rather than attempting unofficial login methods or relying on third-party websites.

GoTHOMIS also provides a password-reset option that requires the user’s valid username. If resetting the password does not solve the problem, the system directs users to seek assistance from ICT support.

This is worth stressing. Government health systems contain sensitive operational and patient information. Users should confirm that they are accessing the gothomis.tamisemi.go.tz domain before entering credentials and should never disclose passwords to people claiming to provide unofficial account assistance.

At the service-delivery level, GoTHOMIS represents something larger than another government portal. It connects patient care, hospital administration, medicines, insurance and referrals within a shared system — areas that traditionally generate large amounts of paperwork and fragmented records.

For Tanzania’s health sector, the real measure of success will be what happens at the facility counter, consultation room, pharmacy and ward. When staff use the platform consistently and correctly, digital records can support faster decisions, better coordination and more accountable health operations.
