Tanzania’s ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has recommended Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi, 43, to become the country’s new vice president following the resignation of Emmanuel Nchimbi.
The decision was made by CCM’s National Executive Committee under the chairmanship of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and announced on Wednesday night, August 26, 2026, at the party’s offices in Lumumba, Dar es Salaam.
CCM Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro said Ndejembi’s name would be submitted to Parliament for the next stages of the process.
Ndejembi is being put forward to fill the position left vacant after Nchimbi announced his resignation on August 25.
The proposed vice president is currently Tanzania’s minister for Energy and represents Chamwino constituency in Dodoma as a member of Parliament.
Before entering Parliament, Ndejembi served as district commissioner for Kongwa in Dodoma Region. CCM selected him as its parliamentary candidate for Chamwino in 2020.
He later served as deputy minister in the President’s Office responsible for Public Service Management and Good Governance before moving into full Cabinet positions. In July 2024, President Hassan appointed him minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, and he subsequently became minister for Energy.
Ndejembi studied International Relations at the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom between 2006 and 2009 and later pursued an Advanced Diploma at the Institute of Administrative Management between 2009 and 2012.
His nomination now moves to Parliament for the remaining process before the vice-presidential position can be filled.
